Brian Lawrence

Brian was born in Scotland and grew up in the West of Scotland.

As was the norm in Scotland all the boys played either soccer and football, however Brian had a secret because he loved drawing. At school he was quite a shy young lad, of course in the art class

it was a different story as all his peers would come up to him and ask his advice. This encouraged him to keep drawing.

As a young lad Brian and his mate would play soccer in the street but one particular day the soccer ball landed in a ladies front yard. Brian remembers being yelled at but was saved by his mate

who promptly told the lady Brian was his friend. With that acknowledgment they were both offered lemonade and cake, however inside this ladies house was a painter and Brian was drawn to the

smell of gum turps.

His friend quite assertively told this man that Brian could draw and straight away Brian found himself in the possession of a paint brush. Brian urge to paint and draw was cemented from that

moment on.

Later on in life the artist's passion led him to win many awards starting in high school in the years 1962,63 and 64.

Brian as an adult placed his art on hold due to family commitments and mortgages until a severe back injury resulted in him once again reviving his art.

Brian attended a couple of workshops with local artists Greg Smith and Joel Magpayo in Australia, but predominately Brian is self taught and has continued to win numerous awards around Victoria.

He has also been a judge at Myrniong Art Show and Ballan Rotary Art Show.

Brian has also won awards at the Royal Melbourne Show, best in show at Sunbury 2007, Ballarat 2013 and people's choice Bacchus marsh 2010. Brian's proud achievements also include winning

the Artist of the year three times and being runner up three times in the Ballarat Society of Artists.

Brian tells everyone that painting is his way of escaping from life's pressures and is a well respected artist in the community.
